Jeff Tober is the Farm Manager and is very excited to be joining the CSA. Jeff spent the last 4 years at Brookfield Farm in Amherst, MA where he was the Assistant Farm Manager. Jeff and his wife Becky Free are from Pennsylvania and are happy to be back in the Mid-Atlantic. Why don't you say a few words Farmer Jeff:
“Hello and welcome to Fernbrook Farm CSA. We have completed a pretty successful inaugural year and we’re gearing up for the 2008 season. We’re still processing the totals from 2007 but it is safe to say we grew tons and tons of fresh produce from early June to Thanksgiving for 90 plus families. It was a pleasure getting settled in Bordentown and getting to know a wonderful group of shareholders – the large majority of whom are returning for another year! The soils proved to be productive and our irrigation systems worked just fine which was a blessing during that hot, dry summer. It’s winter now which is a great time to do things like fix machines, make field plans, go to conferences, sleep a bit and update the website! But before you know it we’ll be firing up the greenhouse, and putting seed to soil once again.
In 2008, we are expanding our acreage and we’ll be selling more shares. We’ll also have some additional crops like strawberries and raspberries which should be ready to pick this year. Our goal is to continue to meet the demand for fresh, delicious and organically grown produce while growing in a sustainable manner that builds soil tilth and encourages biodiversity. Soil is a precious resource and we take our stewardship of it seriously!
Take a virtual stroll through the website to learn more about the farm, the basics of a CSA and the kinds of food we grow. Please contact me if you have any questions and thank you for your interest in supporting locally grown food!”
